If you are running 64-bit Vista, you're out of luck. Microsoft requires device drivers to be signed (i.e. developers to pay for the privilege of writing device drivers for their wonderful operating system). See http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/winlogo/drvsign/drvsign_perOS.mspx I advise you get off the Microsoft train-wreck ASAP. If you're still using 32-bit windows read on
If you install libprs500 and find that it doesn't detect the SONY Reader, that means there is a conflict with the USB drivers from SONY's Connect software. In windows, you cannot install two sets of drivers for one device. In order to resolve the conflict, start Device Manager by clicking Start->Run and typing devmgmt.msc and pressing enter.
Uninstall all SONY related drivers. You will find them in two or less locations.
- Under Libusb-Win32 (libprs500 driver)
- Under Universal Serial ... (... depends on version of windows, here you will find the SONY driver)
You can uninstall a driver by right clicking on it and selecting uninstall.
Once the drivers have been uninstalled, uninstall libprs500. Reboot. Reinstall libprs500.
